甲部
1. Hello, listening friends, and thank you for tuning in to this broadcast.
2. We have recently begun this new series of messages called, “The Secrets of Positive Living.”
3. It is based on the book of 2 Corinthians in the New Testament.
4. And there are fifteen of them in all.
5. So far, I have shared the first two with you.
6. Do you remember them?
7. Number one is the practicing of the inflow/outflow equation of God’s blessings in our lives.
8. And number two is claiming the priceless deposit of Christ’s sacrifice for us.
9. In today’s message, I will share with you the third secret of positive living.
10. But I want to begin by saying that most people know what forgiveness is.
11. I have talked to scores of people who would say to me, “I know that Christ has forgiven my sins,
12. but I have a hard time accepting that.”
13. I have met scores of people who would say to me, “I know I need to forgive someone, but I’m having a hard time doing that.”
14. So the problem is not intellectually understanding forgiveness and the importance of it,
15. the problem is how to accept forgiveness and give forgiveness.
16. Even secular counselors will tell you that forgiving is good for your health.
17. But the Bible makes it clear that receiving and giving forgiveness is only possible in the context of Jesus’ unconditional forgiveness of sins.
18. The Bible makes it clear that if you have received forgiveness from the hand of God through Jesus Christ, then you have no other option than to forgive others.
19. This third secret of positive living comes to us directly from 2 Corinthians chapter 2 verses 5-17.
20. Paul gives us seven reasons why we have no option but to forgive a repentant person.
21. Then he goes on to give us a visual image that will help us practice forgiveness.
22. Reason number one,
23. forgiveness empowers us to defeat pride.
24. Look at verse 5 with me.
25. One of the main reasons we refuse to forgive someone is pride.
26. Pride causes us to nourish self-pity and self-protection.
27. Pride wants us to retaliate and hit back.
28. What is the problem that Paul was dealing with here?
29. Paul was apparently assaulted by one of the Corinthians, who later repented.
30. But some of Paul’s supporters said, “We can’t forgive that person yet.
31. He has not suffered enough.”
32. Paul said, “Don’t do that. I am neither bitter nor resentful.
33. I have forgiven him.
34. If the man repented, I have no option but to forgive him completely.”
35. My listening friend, listen very carefully.
36. Positive living has no room for holding on to past offenses, sins, and strife.
37. And that is why Paul said he will not let bitterness and unforgiveness steal his joy and effectiveness for God.
38. The second reason for forgiveness is showing mercy.
39. Look at verse 6 of chapter 2 of 2 Corinthians.
40. The punishment inflicted upon the offender, as far as Paul was concerned, was enough.
41. The third reason for forgiving a repentant person is the restoration of joy.
42. Look at verse 7.
43. Paul is telling the Corinthians that to refuse to forgive a repentant person is a sin that will steal your joy.
44. To refuse to forgive a repentant person causes that person to keep on drowning in their past sins.
45. God’s purpose in forgiveness is for joy to be restored to everyone.
46. Reason number four is reigniting love.
47. Look at verse 8.
48. The very core of unforgiveness is a lack of love.
49. A loveless person is an unforgiving person.
50. And Paul said, “I refuse to live in this kind of negative torment.”
51. Reason number five is that forgiveness is a test of obedience.
52. Look at verse 9.
53. Because God commanded us to forgive a repentant person,
54. therefore, to withhold forgiveness of a repentant person is an act of disobedience to God.
55. But, my listening friend, that does not mean that God overlooks sin or wants sin to go unconfessed.
56. No.
57. But once a sin is confessed and repented of, forgiveness must follow,
58. or else you are putting yourself above God.
59. Reason number six for forgiveness is maintaining unity.

60. Look at verse 10.
61. Many times in both the Old and the New Testament, God urges the believers to be united.
62. The Bible tells us about certain blessings that are only possible where there is unity.
63. Unforgiveness hinders unity.
64. And that is why Peter, in 1 Peter chapter 3, tells the husbands and wives to be united.

67. Look at verse 11 with me.

69. God wants His children to be humble, merciful, joyful, loving, and obedient people.
70. Satan wants people to be prideful, angry, merciless, and disobedient.
71. And when we refuse to forgive a repentant person, we are helping Satan.
72. Helping him to do what?
73. To destroy—destroy homes, destroy relationships, destroy churches, destroy communities.
74. An unforgiving spirit directly helps Satan’s plan.
75. And that is why Paul said, “We are not ignorant of his schemes.”
76. Forgiveness blesses the one who does the forgiving and the one who is forgiven.
77. Forgiveness blesses the home and the church in which it is practiced.
78. And Satan does not want us to have these blessings.
79. Right after those seven reasons for forgiveness,
80. Paul, almost without taking a breath, shouts these exciting words in verses 14 and 15.
81. Let’s read them together.
82. And, my listening friend, this is the picture that Paul had in mind here when he visualizes the victorious general, Jesus Christ,
83. visualizing Him marching in an unstoppable, triumphal procession throughout the world.
84. And right behind him are all the faithful Christian soldiers and saints who have fought the spiritual battles against sin and Satan;
85. triumphally marching behind their general, Jesus Christ.
86. And what Paul is saying to us is this—
87. when you visualize yourself being in that procession every waking moment of every day,
88. marching behind our triumphal general, Jesus Christ, victorious over every sin,
89. you will find it easy to forgive a repentant person who may have hurt you.
90. So what does visualizing the continuous procession mean to you and to me today?
91. It means that when you get up in the morning and feeling lousy,
92. you say to yourself,
